Summit was requested to locate a suitable site in the western sector of Duval County for a new 1,145 enrollment Charter School. Although many sites in the focus area were for sale, none of them were truly suitable for our preferred design. Locating a non-listed site suitable for our client’s needs, it was determined the site was currently owned by the Diocese of St Augustine, the Catholic Church. At first the Diocese was not interested in selling the site to a potential competitor to their existing school close by. Upon completing research of other completed charter schools within close proximity to Diocese owned schools in Northeast Florida, it was determined the opening of new Charter Schools had little effect on the active enrollment of locally owned Diocese schools. The style of education and curriculum attracted different family demographics and was not real or substantiated threat to the Diocese Catholic based schools. The site was purchased, conditionally zoned, and successfully constructed. The unique entry and exit portals of this school site have been closely filmed and documented demonstrating the negligible impact of charter school stacking designs on high-traffic highways.
