Summit Construction was selected to provide turn-key services for this 73,633 SF project in Jacksonville, FL. KIPP’s initial campus in Jacksonville was the successful conversion of a former dog racing venue and track in Duval County. With enrollment continually increasing, KIPP approved the construction of a new school in the former parking lot of the same project.
The center of the original racing track, located between the existing and new buildings, was to be filled and converted into a recreational soccer field and track, plus the addition of a new recreational gymnasium adjoining the current recreation field.
Construction included the removal of the existing parking lot and amenities, removal of negatively tested soils, importation of suitable fill for construction of roads and building pad, closing of an access road during the digging and structural bulk-head installation of a new retention area, plus total development of a new two story building.
The entire new construction and renovation area was securely fenced, preventing non-workers from having access to the construction areas while also enforcing Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act, protecting all students and personnel on active school grounds. KIPP Jax was built for KIPP Schools.
